Snowboard Print Inspriation

Prints continue to inspire. The SIA show and specifically the snowboard brands inspired me to comb the web and dig for modern art inspirations. Here is some from artists old and new. The key, of course, is modern. Mid Century, or Mid Morning. Much of the work in this posting comes from painternyc. What a great resource for amazing art. There is some digital art in here but that deserves it's own entry. If your interested only in digital art you can get a dose by clicking here.

My fav, from Lane Twitchell Psychedelic spirituality makes me happy.

Similar but very different from Obey Giant.

This reminds me of the shapes and blocking happening in the clothing designs. Dorota Kolodziejczk is the artist. You have to see her site. Just full of color.

Toben Giehler. Amazing. Don't wait. Go see the site! Again, reflective of what's happening right now in snowboard prints.

Brice Marden. His stuff kept coming up in my search. I want to hang this on my wall. I'd settle for a tee however. I didn't see a home page. Just do an image search and be blown away.

Brice Marden

The above two are from Nina Bovassa. Her stuff is feminine and fun. I don't think the above represents her the best but it reminds me of mid century modern stuff and colorblocking currently happening in snowboard. Check out her site for girls and kids inspiration too.

This is the work of Dutch artist Levi van Veluw. For more info check out lunaticadesnuda.

Oskar Fischinger, The Small Wave, 1940. Mid Century Artist and Inventor.

I found these two digital prints by doing a search on mid century prints. Some cool stuff on skate boards. The site is called deb. Worth a look.

The 3 above prints on stretched canvas were found on 2 Modern. Cute. The second one called "bubbles" kind of reminds me of a Volcom print on the 09/10 line so be careful how you use it.

A final note. For more retro geometric ideas check out Sean Scully images. And if you didn't already, you'll see his influence everywhere. Like in the next Pottery Barn/ West Elm Catalog you open.

Have fun! PS- if there is anything in particular you would like to see in this blog. Please shoot me and email, I love to research and inspire. S

Chrildren's Print Inspiration

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Be inspired with children's prints. If you do nothing else, check out print and pattern. It's filled with great inspiration on a daily basis. Above are designs for doodle pads from print and pattern and created by ann kelle designs.I love this one found on print and pattern from UK kids designers Mini Modern. The look is clean and modern and could easily be translated into prints for outerwear.

Speaking of clean and modern, from "Pillows and Throws" the above "traffic wall art" is created by dwell studio.

This bear print via print and pattern is created by hamburgerpanda out of San Francisco. The prints are booth naive and irreverent. A great combination in kids snowboard clothing. The link connects direct to their on line shop.

I'm sure you have seen the great prints at Tea. They are very modern prints that some how feel very nostalgic. I love that!

Along the same lines as Tea is marimekko. Again, a wonderful mix of modern nostalgia.

Although naive prints aren't new, the look is still strong. The above prints are from illustrator andrea dieterich. Her look is, above all, fun and very modern. Great for kids and toddlers in the outdoors.

From "Pillows and Throws" the above "fifties fish" is from The Marooshka Collection.

Finally, my favorite. Artist Sara Jane creates cards and art that draws on nostalgia yet work in a modern home. This one specifically speaks to the girl within us and connect with the wonder of youth and the outdoors. You can shop for product at her online shop. Perhaps inspirational for T-shirts and marketing material.

May your New Year be filled with equal parts Wonder, Naivete, Respect for the Past, and Hope and Vision for the Future.

Print Inspiration

You probably know, wallpaper is making a comeback. Designers are creating some truly inspiring prints. Here are some of my favorites.

An outline painting on vintage wallpaper from the artist Dallas Shaw. I love the mix of old and new, the layered effect and the dichotomy it creates. I could see using this layered effect (particularly a painted outline) with any of the below print directions. It creates amazing possibilities.

There are a lot of designers playing with toile. This one is Sheila Bridges "Harlem Toile de Jouy". I could see a fun "snow" toile for linings or a reversible Down style.

Foils are intriguing. Perhaps over the top, but fun to contemplate how they could be used in a truly wearable print. This one from Woodson & Rummerfield's by Florence Broadhurst. By the way, when you have time to kill, check out http://www.wandrdesign.com. They are "High Style" interior designers in LA. Super fun.
Another foil, this one from Graham & Brown. (http://www.grahambrown.com) This is just a pretty print, with or without the foil.

OK, the color is a bit much, but toned down it could be interesting. This, again, is from Woodson & Rummerfield's.
Check out Ferm Living for beautiful prints inspired from nature. http://www.ferm-living.com
I love the shadow prints at Ferm Living.
This print from Graham & Brown is inspiring for it's simplicity and wearability.

Next I'll check out some Kids prints. Will have that up next week sometime.
